2021 Winner! I Can Read with My Eyes Shut altered by The Language Eye-Tracking & Reading (LETR) Lab, Spring 2021
While the Cat in the Hat can read with his eyes shut, typical skilled readers cannot (unless they are reading Braille!) Instead, our eyes make a series of stops (called "fixations") and jumps (called "saccades") to bring the fine details of the lines and curves on the page into greater focus for processing. Here, we present the eye movements of a parent reading this book to their child. We invite you to explore the magical dance that takes place when we read with our eyes wide open.
Browse through selected pages from this altered book. Each page of the book has two overlays showing the eye tracking.
