Saratoga Springs and Skidmore History

Special Collections

Primary sources documenting the history of Skidmore are mostly found in the Special Collections college archives on the 3rd floor of the library in the Pohndorff room. This includes, but is not limited to, department and committee records, college and student publications, photographs, news articles, audio-visual recordings, and writings about Skidmore and its community of students, employees and alumni. Our rare books collection encompasses numerous small named collections of rare books as well as an artists’ books collection.

This material can be found via the Library Catalog and in the Finding Aids. You can visit Special Collections to see these materials. It is recommended that you make an appointment to see materials as the room is sometimes booked for classes or by other researchers.

Digital Collections

Many items in Special Collections have been digitized and are available in our Digital Collections.  This includes but is not limited to:

Books

There are several books available in the library that chronicle the history of Skidmore. These are available to borrow from the Circulating collection.  Special Collections has some additional works that can be browsed in the Pohndorff Room.
