Historical Newspapers

Remember that when searching in historical newspaper databases to use the date limiter.  Also, think about your search terms and the terminology that would have been used at the time period you are searching.


19th Century Books, Pamphlets, and Catalogs

The Internet Archive and HathiTrust are an online repositories and archives where libraries and other institutions have scanned and uploaded materials that are in the public domain. This can be a great resource for helping to identify artifacts or trying to get more information about how items were used. Here are just a few examples of what can be found. Remember to use the date limiter when searching.


Records for People

The library has access to Ancestry that allows you to search for records of people from sources like the US Census, city directories, marriage and death directories, etc. The more information you can include about an individual like their name, birth year, location, etc. the easier it will be to locate the correct person and their records.
